DP World Enhances India-Mideast Trade with New Vessel

DP World deploys 5,000+ TEU vessel to strengthen trade links between India and the Middle East, boosting capacity and service reliability.

DP World has acquired a 5,000+ TEU vessel, DP World Chennai, and deployed it on its Red Sea-Gulf-India service to strengthen trade links between India and the Middle East, reports Bangalore's Marine Insight.

The vessel made its maiden call at Jebel Ali Port and has been integrated into DP World's Shipping Solutions network to enhance connectivity between Indian ports and major Middle Eastern hubs, raising the company's owned capacity to more than six million TEU.

Ganesh Raj, marine operations chief, stated that the acquisition improves flexibility and ensures shipments move as scheduled. DP World added that this move is part of its strategy to build a diversified maritime network by investing in proprietary assets and integrating port terminals with marine services.

Trade volumes between India and the Middle East continue to grow across energy, manufactured goods, and consumer products. By expanding owned tonnage, DP World aims to reduce reliance on chartered ships and improve service predictability. Earlier this year, Shipping Solutions advanced to 15th in Alphaliner's global Top 50 carriers ranking, and DP World announced plans to invest US$5 billion in India's trade infrastructure.
