DP World expands its UK logistics network by acquiring six grocery sites from GXO, adding over 2 million sq ft of warehouse space and 2,000 employees.

DP World has agreed to take over six contract logistics sites from GXO Logistics, adding more than two million square feet of warehouse capacity and around 2,000 employees to its UK operations. The transfer is scheduled to complete in September.

The sites serve major grocery retailers Asda, Sainsbury's, and the Co-op. Five are located in England and one in Northern Ireland. Together, they hold roughly 46,000 unique products and offer ambient, chilled, frozen, and bonded storage, supplying out-of-town supermarkets, branded convenience outlets, and neighbourhood stores across the country.

The transfer stems from a regulatory condition imposed by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which approved GXO's acquisition of Wincanton on the basis that the six grocery sites be divested. The CMA has approved the transfer to DP World. GXO will retain transport operations at all applicable sites.

For DP World, the acquisition strengthens a UK network that already includes the London Gateway and Southampton container ports, alongside logistics, freight forwarding, and marine services. The addition broadens the company's contract logistics footprint and positions it to link port operations more closely with warehousing and distribution for grocery, retail, and consumer customers.

Angela Howard, Vice President, Contract Logistics, North Europe at DP World, commented on the agreement.

"We are delighted to welcome these six sites and the talented teams who operate them into DP World. They support some of the UK's best-known grocery retailers and play a vital role in keeping products moving efficiently through complex supply chains every day.

"For our customers, it will be business as usual, backed by the strength, scale, and investment of a global logistics business. By adding these operations to our network, we are expanding our ability to provide seamless supply chain solutions that connect ports, transport, warehousing, and distribution through a single, integrated platform.

"This is an important step in our ambition to build a truly end-to-end logistics offering across the UK and Europe. It strengthens our presence in key retail and consumer markets, broadens our geographic reach, and further enhances our ability to create value for customers."

The transaction reflects DP World's continued expansion in the UK logistics sector. By combining the new facilities with its existing ports, transport, and distribution infrastructure, the company reinforces its position as a provider of end-to-end supply chain services across the UK and Europe.
