DP World and APM Terminals Forge Strategic Jeddah Alliance

DP World and APM Terminals partner at Jeddah Islamic Port, with APM acquiring 37.5% stake, enhancing regional shipping connectivity.

DP World and Maersk's APM Terminals have agreed to a strategic partnership at Jeddah Islamic Port, with the Maersk-owned operator acquiring a 37.5 per cent stake while DP World retains 62.5 per cent and operational control, reports Amsterdam area's Breakbulk News.

The deal reshapes ownership of one of Saudi Arabia's largest container terminals, which has a handling capacity of 4.1 million TEU across five berths. The facility links Asia, Europe, and Africa trade lanes.

APM Terminals secures its first direct equity in Jeddah, while DP World builds on a 30-year concession awarded in 2019. Since then, the Dubai-based operator has expanded capacity and efficiency.

DP World chief executive Yuvraj Narayan stated that Jeddah remains central to the company's growth in Saudi Arabia, supporting Vision 2030. APM Terminals chief executive Keith Svendsen noted that the investment secures long-term access to quality infrastructure.

The Saudi Ports Authority welcomed the partnership, stating it supports the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and will expand shipping connectivity. Jeddah Islamic Port operates 62 multipurpose berths and is the largest port on the Red Sea.

Analysts indicated that the deal will boost container volumes, improve efficiency, and lower logistics costs, positioning Jeddah to compete with regional hubs such as Jebel Ali.

In parallel, APM Terminals is in talks with Eurogate over a proposed EUR1 billion (US$1.18 billion) upgrade of Bremerhaven's North Sea Terminal in Germany, which would lift capacity to 4 million TEU and create Europe's first zero-emission container hub.
