Following the Girne-Taşucu ferry capsizing, air ticket prices skyrocketed, with some exceeding 35,000 lira for a short flight.
After the passenger ship operating the Girne-Taşucu route capsized, passengers who turned to air travel encountered exorbitant ticket prices. On flights between Çukurova and Ercan, some tickets exceeded 35 thousand lira for the approximately 50-minute journey.
The capsizing of the passenger ship on the Girne-Taşucu route not only caused disruptions in maritime transportation but also led to significant price increases in air tickets.
Due to the increased demand for flights following the accident, ticket prices on the Çukurova International Airport-Ercan Airport route reached remarkable levels.
50-MINUTE FLIGHT EXCEEDED 35 THOUSAND LIRA
It was observed that some ticket prices for the Çukurova-Ercan flights, which last approximately 45-50 minutes, exceeded 35 thousand lira.
With the rapid increase in demand, it was noted that airlines implemented dynamic pricing and last-minute fares, while passengers who had to travel urgently reacted to the high prices.
'6 THOUSAND LIRA TICKET ROSE TO 22 THOUSAND LIRA'
Murat Şenkul, the Mayor of Girne, also reacted to the rise in airplane ticket prices. Noting that hundreds of people were waiting at Girne Port to travel, Şenkul stated that it was normal for demand for flights to increase after the ship accident, but the prices reaching these levels were unacceptable.
Şenkul highlighted the situation by stating that some tickets, which normally cost around 6 thousand lira, had risen to as much as 22 thousand lira.
'SHAME ON ALL OF US'
Indicating that there were people at the port whose permission period had expired or who needed to return to their countries urgently, Şenkul reacted to the price increase by saying, 'Even in these conditions, we couldn't escape from a commercial perspective; shame on all of us.'
Şenkul also emphasized that necessary measures should be taken to learn from the incidents and to prevent similar situations from occurring again.
SERVICES BETWEEN MERSIN AND GIRNE CANCELLED
Following the capsizing of the ship that set sail from the TRNC's Girne Port to Taşucu Port in the Silifke district of Mersin, it was announced that passenger transportation had been canceled until further notice.
Services from Mersin, including Taşucu-Girne-Taşucu and Anamur-Girne-Anamur routes, were canceled. The announcement of canceled services was made on the screens at the Taşucu Passenger Terminal. As the announcement of the cancellation of ferry and ship services was also made by the staff, some passengers left the port.
Due to the capsizing of the ship that departed from Girne Port, a crisis desk was established at Taşucu Port, where AFAD, UMKE, gendarmerie, police, and health teams continue to wait as a precaution.
