DB CARGO is reshuffling its management board to gear up for future growth with the appointment of Pierre Timmermans, 57, as the new board member for sales and marketing starting April 1. The Dutchman has over 20 years of rail experience and logistics expertise, having served as CEO of Czech rail freight operator AWT, CEO of the PSA International container port group, and head of contract logistics at Frans Maas.
In addition, DB Cargo Polska chief Marek Staszek, 49, will move to the management board of the parent company on February 1. He brings with him 25 years of experience in rail freight.
Mr Staszek has served on the board of DB Cargo's Polish national company since 2010, first as a member for finance and since 2014 as the chairman and chief executive.
Mr Staszek's previous positions include chief financial officer at PCC Rail SA and CEO at PTKiGK in Rybnik. Incumbent Michael Anslinger will take on new responsibilities at the DB Group.
'By bringing Pierre Timmermans and Marek Staszek on board, we are not only adding two industry experts to our team, we are also gaining international expertise so that we can grow in Europe,' said chairman Alexander Doll.
'There is enormous potential for rail freight transport in Germany and on European routes and we need to take advantage of those opportunities,' he added.
Said DB Cargo chief Roland Bosch: 'We will move DB Cargo back in the right direction and help shift more traffic to environmentally-friendly rail.'
