    Damen Shipyards, Smit Lamnalco Ink Tug Boats Deal at SMM 2012

    Phil Cornish, Smit Lamnalco Technical Manager , Andrew Brown, Smit Lamnalco Business Development Manager and Arnout Damen COO of Damen Shipyards signed the contract for delivery of 1 Damen Stan Tug 2208 and 2 x Damen ASD Tugs 3212. Damen Shipyards and Smit Lamnalco have today signed a contract for delivery of three tug boats. The signing ceremony took place at Damen Shipyard’s booth at the SMM 2012 in Hamburg, Germany. Phil Cornish, Smit Lamnalco Technical Manager , Andrew Brown, Smit Lamnalco Business Development Manager and Arnout Damen COO of Damen Shipyards signed the contract for delivery of 1 Damen Stan Tug 2208 and 2 x Damen ASD Tugs 3212. The vessels are destined to be deployed in Sierra Leone and Iraq. The value of the contract was not disclosed. The Stan Tug 2208 will be built in Damen’s Cape Town shipyard in South Africa, while the ASD Tugs will be constructed in Damen’s yard in Romania. The vessels are expected to be delivered to Smit Lamnalco by mid November 2012, and will be deployed in Sierra Leone and Iraq. Arnout Damen, COO at Damen Shipyards commented: “Lamnalco had a request for delivery of two tug boats and needed a fast delivery and we were able to respond to the order. We are very happy Lamnalco chose our company for the job.” The vessels will be constructed from the hulls already in stock which explains fast delivery times scheduled. Damen ASD Tug 3212 is designed to operate in all circumstances and features hundreds of big and small innovations, including a completely revised hull formanda higher bow, resulting in better speed and a dry foredeck. It has a maximum bollard pull of 85 tons, sails with 14.5 knots and it’s tested to operate in 3 meter wave height. Other features are, for example, super-absorbent fenders and a new Render/Recovery winch.Four of the new 3212s have been delivered to clients in Australia, Colombia and The Netherlands and 10 are currently under construction. Damen Stan Tug 2208 is ideally suited for all port and coastal assistance performed by the port authority. With a 40-ton bollard pull, this tug can handle all type of vessels.
