During their investigations firefighters spotted the exact point where the fire broke aboard the 'El Venizelos'. Repair work will not start unless the investigation of experts appointed by the Prosecutor's Office of Piraeus and the Ministry of Shipping has been completed. On Sep 4 at 4.25 p.m three tugs pulled the ferry from the Xavier Port in Piraeus to the Perama shipyards area. The ship has suffered considerable damage as the fire burned for four days. The ferry had been carrying 80 trucks and 152 vehicles, many of which suffered extensive or total damage.
