Domestic container business was the fuel to the strong growth of Dalian's container throughput. In this period, the port's handling volume of domestic containers surged 49.9 per cent but containerised foreign trade cargo only increased 6.9 per cent.
The year of 2013 is a crucial year for Dalian to accomplish its target of raising annual throughput to 10 million TEU in three years' time.
Facing hardships caused by economic downturn in both China and the world, Dalian devoted much effort to developing intermodal transport to boost containerised shipments while continuing to secure other kinds of cargo.
Dalian Container Terminal Company Limited has integrated its business and merged its 37 subsidiaries into four sectors responsible for terminal, logistics, feeder services and information to enhance efficiency and comparative advantages.
At the same time, the company has developed relationships with carriers to improve ocean services and to offer door-to-door service for domestic and foreign trade transshipments from the Bohai Rim and Huanghai Rim region.
In addition, the company has also divided its shipping service coverage into six areas, logistics service coverage into three areas, and feeder service coverage into 10 areas to offer more customised services.
