COSCO SHIPPING unveils a new sea-air corridor, enhancing logistics between China and Brazil with faster transit times and improved efficiency.
COSCO SHIPPING has formally launched a new China-Peru-Brazil sea-air intermodal corridor, marking a significant advance in transoceanic freight connectivity between China and South America. A consignment of goods originating from Chinese e-commerce platforms has been successfully delivered to Sao Paulo, Brazil, via a route that combines direct ocean freight from Shanghai to Peru's Chancay Port with onward air cargo services into Brazil - reducing total transit time to 30 days, approximately 10 days faster than an all-ocean alternative.
The new corridor is engineered to balance cost efficiency with speed: transoceanic sea freight controls overall transportation costs across the long-haul leg, while regional air capacity compresses transit time across the South American segment. Together, the two modes deliver a logistics solution that neither pure sea freight nor pure air freight could achieve independently - providing Chinese export enterprises with a competitive new pathway into the Brazilian market.
The intermodal product was jointly developed by the COSCO SHIPPING Lines Chancay Working Group, operating under COSCO SHIPPING Holdings, in partnership with COSCO SHIPPING Logistics Supply Chain Aviation Logistics. Chancay Port serves as the central transshipment hub, efficiently connecting the Shanghai-Chancay direct ocean service with available air freight capacity on the Peru-Brazil leg. Upon arrival at Chancay Port, the inaugural shipment completed all port transshipment operations within 48 hours and was swiftly connected to outbound air freight services bound for Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport.
Throughout the transit, COSCO SHIPPING's digital platform enabled end-to-end cargo visibility under a single tracking number, allowing shippers to monitor the full journey - from port to tarmac to final destination - in real time. The successful delivery of the inaugural e-commerce consignment demonstrates the integrated strength of COSCO SHIPPING's shipping, port, and logistics service model, while also establishing a foundation of operational experience for continued cross-border logistics innovation across South America.
From Shanghai to Sao Paulo, this corridor crosses oceans and mountain ranges to open trade and connect communities. COSCO SHIPPING Holdings has committed to continuously optimizing transshipment efficiency across every link in the corridor, extending sea-air intermodal services to additional South American markets with Chancay Port as the regional hub - advancing safer, more efficient, and more accessible logistics support for the growth of China-Latin America trade and economic cooperation.
