    Container ship thwarted pirate attack

The "Kota Sempena" was attacked by a priate's skiff in the Gulf of Guinea 10 miles from Bonny River on Dec 7, 2017. The attack on the ship was made by eight pirates in a fast skiff fitted with twin outboards, armed with AK 47 assault rifles, and a ladder with a hook. The container ship thwarted the attack thanks to barbed wire fencing, increased speed and evasive maneuvers. Four signal rockets were fired in the direction of pirates boat. The pirates gave up and turned away after about an hour’s chase. The "Kota Sempena" was enroute from Onne, where she had sailed on Dec 7, to Port Klang.
