    Container cargo turnover at Latvian ports increased by 27.4% in 7 months

    Container cargo turnover at Latvian ports continued increased in the first seven months of 2012, reaching a total of 216,075 TEU, which is 27.4% more than in the same period last year. Traditionally, Riga Port is the leader in terms of container cargo turnover – the port handled 213,137 TEU in the first seven months, a 27.1% increase, writes LETA.

    Container cargo turnover at Latvian ports continued increased in the first seven months of 2012, reaching a total of 216,075 TEU, which is 27.4% more than in the same period last year. Traditionally, Riga Port is the leader in terms of container cargo turnover – the port handled 213,137 TEU in the first seven months, a 27.1% increase, writes LETA. Liepaja Port had 2,531 TEU (34.6% increase) and Ventspils Port 360 TEU. As reported, cargo turnover at Latvian ports reached 46.25 million in the first seven months of 2012, 14.8% more than in the respective period of 2011, Nozare.lv was informed by the Latvian Port, Transit and Logistics Council. In the first seven months of 2011, Latvian ports handled a total of 40.3 million tons of cargo. The Freeport of Riga handled 21.96 million tons of cargo in January-July 2012, the Freeport of Ventspils – 19.4 million tons, the Port of Liepaja – 4 million tons. Source: Baltic Course
