THE Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) in Sri Lanka has been honoured as the Best Container Terminal in Asia in the under four million TEU category at the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards hosted by Asia Cargo News. Managed by China Merchant Port Holdings (CMPort), the CICT is the only deep water terminal in South Asia capable of handling the biggest box ships in operation.

This marks the third year in a row that CICT has won this award that honours organisations for demonstrating leadership, consistency in service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability, reported Xinhua.

Commenting on CICT winning the award, the company's CEO Jack Huang said the award is a testament to the terminal's consistent delivery of high levels of service to the international shipping lines that call at its terminal.

Since launching operations in 2014, CICT has grown handling volumes from 686,639 TEU in 2014 to 2.68 million TEU in 2018.
