MARSEILLE-based CMA CGM, the world's third largest carrier, has announced it will launch a new weekly Asia-south Red Sea REX 3 service from May 2.
Complementing the existing REX 2 service, which focuses on Red Sea northern ports including Jeddah, Sokhna and Aqaba, the new REX 3 loop will connect Asia to six Red Sea southern ports via Colombo, Sri Lanka, providing a full coverage of South Indian markets, said the carrier's statement.
The rotation of the REX 3 service is Port Kelang, Tanjung Pelepas, Colombo, Djibouti, Aden, Jeddah, Port Sudan, and back to Djibouti, Colombo and Port Kelang.
The new REX 3 will offer the fastest transit time from Asia to Port Sudan, with 28 days from Shanghai to Port Sudan, and some of the best transit times to the Ethiopian market via Djibouti and to Aden, said CMA CGM.
"With the launch of the new REX 3 service which complements its existing offer, CMA CGM confirms its intention to meet its customers expectation through the provision of ever more reliable services as well as to contribute to the development of Red Sea markets," said CMA CGM Asia MED and NAF vice president Stephane Courquin.
