CMA CGM has taken delivery of its first methanol dual-fuel vessel, the 15,000 TEU CMA CGM Antigone, from CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard in China.

CMA CGM has officially taken delivery of its first methanol dual-fuel container vessel, the 15,000 TEU CMA CGM Antigone, built by CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard in China, as reported by Rotterdam's Offshore Energy.

The vessel was named on December 11 and delivered the following day. Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, the classification society, confirmed that it had classed the CMA CGM Antigone after conducting thorough technical reviews and risk assessments. These assessments covered various aspects, including design, fuel system safety, fire protection, and ventilation.

Matthieu de Tugny, vice president of Bureau Veritas, stated that the delivery represents a significant advancement in the adoption of methanol as an alternative marine fuel. He emphasized that classing the vessel underscores the society's commitment to assisting shipowners and builders in implementing low-carbon solutions.

The CMA CGM Antigone measures 366 meters in length and serves as the lead ship in Jiangnan's Kun series of 15,000-TEU methanol dual-fuel containerships. Its advanced propulsion system significantly reduces nitrogen oxide emissions and nearly eliminates sulfur oxides, enabling early compliance with the International Maritime Organization's 2030 targets.

Xavier Leclercq, vice president of New Building at CMA Ships, highlighted that the successful delivery reflects the close cooperation among Jiangnan Shipyard, China Shipbuilding Trading Co, CMA CGM, Bureau Veritas, and other partners. He expressed gratitude to the shipyard and China State Shipbuilding Corporation for their support and looked forward to continued collaboration.
