Ciner Shipping has ordered 9 vessels worth over $1 billion, leading the maritime order race among Turkish companies this year.
Many companies, including Koç Holding and Advantage Tankers owned by the Karamehmet Family, have entered a race to place orders at sea. The most notable among them is Ciner Shipping, owned by Turgay Ciner. Since the beginning of this year, Ciner has added 6 ships to its order book and has now added 3 more to the list. Thus, the total number of orders has reached 9 ships in 7 months, with a total value exceeding 1 billion dollars.
The security of supply in the global energy market is witnessing record orders at sea.
Many Turkish companies, from Koç Holding to Bayegan, from Yalçın Sabancı's YASA to Advantage Tankers owned by the Karamehmet Family, are making agreements to add millions of dollars worth of ships to their fleets one after another.
The champion of orders this year has been the Ciner Group, achieving this title while only half of the year has passed. Ciner Shipping, managed by Turgay Ciner, has added 3 more ships to its orders since January.
Ciner, which sat down with the South Korean shipbuilding giant HD Hyundai, has ordered 3 dual-fuel VLACs, or very large ammonia carriers, with a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters. The total cost of the ships is 363 million dollars, which is approximately 17 billion lira at today's exchange rate. The 3 ships recorded in the Korean company's order book are scheduled for delivery by May 2030.
This year, Ciner announced that it entered the gas carrier market by placing a preliminary order for 6 VLACs worth 717 million US dollars after advanced negotiations with Korean HD Hyundai.
These ships are planned to join the fleet by December 2029. Thus, the number of ships ordered from the Korean company has risen to 9, with a total value exceeding 1 billion dollars, reaching approximately 45 billion lira.
Ciner Shipping, which moved its headquarters to Greece last year, has 27 ships in various stages of completion at different shipyards around the world, including ongoing projects. This fleet will include 12 Ultramax bulk carriers, 4 Kamsarmax bulk carriers, 2 3,100 TEU container ships, and a massive fleet of 9 VLACs.
