    BANGLADESH's Chittagong port saw its container throughput rise by 12 per cent in the just concluded fiscal year, reported Dhaka Daily Star. Official figures show that the volume of import, export and empty containers handled rose by 10.5 per cent in 2016-17, down from 17.27 per cent a year ago.

    According to port authorities, container handling rose due to higher import and export volumes, additional capacity for container storage and new handling equipment.

    Storage has been increased by 15,000 TEU from 36,000 TEU, while 10 pieces of container handling equipment, mostly cranes, were added in May.
