A Chinese delegation visited Çanakkale Port to discuss maritime cooperation, enhancing Turkey-China relations on their 55th diplomatic anniversary.
On the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and China, a delegation headed by Shang Jian, Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Istanbul, visited the Port of Çanakkale. The discussions focused on new cooperation opportunities in the fields of maritime, port management, logistics, energy, and cruise tourism.
The delegation led by Shang Jian, Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Istanbul, was welcomed at the Port of Çanakkale. During the visit, which was also attended by Recai Başaran, the Çanakkale Provincial Coordinator of the South Marmara Development Agency, the strategic position of Çanakkale and the role of the port in international trade were evaluated, along with the potential for development in the maritime and logistics sectors of Turkey-China relations.
In the meetings held, opportunities were discussed to strengthen maritime transportation connections between the two countries, particularly focusing on commercial and operational collaborations that could be developed between the Port of Çanakkale and Chinese ports.
The agenda of the meeting also included potential collaborations in port infrastructure, logistics, and installation operations within the scope of Offshore Wind Energy projects. Additionally, mutual evaluations were made regarding the management of ship waste from petroleum derivatives, waste acceptance, recovery, and purification technologies, as well as engineering solutions.
The potential of Çanakkale in cruise tourism was also brought up during the visit. Opportunities for the development of cruise tourism aimed at Chinese tourists and strengthening Çanakkale's position in international cruise routes were evaluated.
Following the discussions on potential collaborations to further enhance the trade volume between Turkey and China through maritime transportation and port connections, the Chinese delegation toured the Port of Çanakkale, examining the facilities and operational activities on-site.
As part of the visit, the delegation was informed about the port's current operational capacity, infrastructure, and areas for future development.
The meeting was attended by Serkan Yardımcı, General Manager of the Port of Çanakkale, Evren Beceren, Director of Port Services, Muhammed Yıldırım, Operations Manager, and Duygu Karakaş, Head of Sales and Marketing.
It is expected that the visit will contribute to the development of new collaborations in various sectors, particularly maritime, port management, logistics, energy, and tourism, between Turkey and China.
Officials from the Port of Çanakkale emphasized the importance of strengthening the long-standing relations between the two countries through new-generation collaborations, stating that Çanakkale's strategic position will be evaluated in a way that contributes to Turkey's global trade connections and that efforts to increase international collaborations will continue.
