Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi calls for balanced trade ties with the EU, emphasizing partnership and cooperation in global affairs.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told visiting European lawmakers in Beijing that China and the European Union should pursue an 'upward dynamic balance' in trade ties, reported Reuters.

Wang stated that China and Europe are partners rather than rivals, with their interests deeply intertwined. He urged both sides to maintain the overarching orientation of partnership and to handle disputes within that framework.

The minister added that China is willing to strengthen coordination with Europe in global affairs. He called on the delegation from the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee to promote a rational and objective perception of China in EU policymaking.

The EU has been weighing tougher measures to address its growing trade deficit with China. Diplomats say member states are gradually converging on the view that the imbalance is a problem.

Trade talks are scheduled later this year under the EU-China consultation mechanism, with Brussels aiming for results by October. Wang set out China's position on trade imbalances, the Ukraine crisis, human rights, and artificial intelligence, according to his ministry.
