CHINA has vowed to take necessary countermeasures now that the US imposes new tariffs on $300 billion worth of ad imposed goods, after US President Donald Trump announced the additional 10 per cent tariffs would begin on September 1, reported the Wall Street Journal. China's new ambassador to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, said Beijing would take 'necessary countermeasures' to protect its rights and described President Trump's move as 'an irrational, irresponsible act'.

Representatives from the Chinese foreign and commerce ministries said Beijing 'strongly opposes' the new tariffs announced by the US, and that they breach the consensus reached in late June by President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
