CHINA's purchases of agricultural products from the United States are part of 'efforts to show goodwill' ahead of the resumption of trade talks in Shanghai, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post

CHINA's purchases of agricultural products from the United States are part of 'efforts to show goodwill' ahead of the resumption of trade talks in Shanghai, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post. Xinhua reported that 'millions of tons' of US soybeans had been loaded onto ships destined for Chinese ports since the G20 summit meeting between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump at the end of June in Japan.

It was also reported that Chinese buyers have been contacting US exporters over potential purchases of other farm products, including cotton, pork, sorghum, wheat, corn and dairy products since July 19.

The US had become increasingly concerned about the lack of progress on core issues since the G20 summit in Osaka, such as the purchasing of agricultural products, US officials and senior Republicans told the Washington Post in mid-July.
