China remained the top trading partner for Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay in January 2026, with containerized volumes showing mixed trends across exports and imports compared with the same month last year, reported Miami's DataMar News.
Brazil's exports to China rose 3.7 percent year-on-year to 40,265 TEU, while shipments to the United States fell 34.1 percent. Mexico and Turkey also posted declines, but the Netherlands and Colombia recorded growth. Overall, Brazil's container exports dropped 9.8 percent to 233,711 TEU.
On the import side, China accounted for 157,218 TEU, up 0.3 percent, while inbound volumes from the United States fell 27.6 percent. India and Germany posted gains, but Italy and Belgium saw sharp declines. Brazil's total imports slipped 2 percent to 301,161 TEU.
Argentina's exports rose 31.5 percent to 45,891 TEU, led by China, the United States, and Brazil. Imports fell 8.3 percent to 54,379 TEU, with China down 8.3 percent but the United States up 33.2 percent. Brazil's shipments to Argentina dropped 26.8 percent.
Paraguay and Uruguay also saw China dominate their export rankings, with volumes nearly doubling to 3,875 TEU. The United States and Vietnam followed, while overall exports from the two countries rose 30.4 percent to 18,710 TEU. Imports were likewise led by China, up 48.4 percent, with the United States also higher but Spain declining.
