Chery, the Chinese automaker, will start vehicle production in Barcelona in 2026 after delays, marking its European debut amid market challenges.
Chinese automaker Chery will begin producing its own vehicles in Spain later this year after repeated delays to its European debut, reported Reuters.
A company executive stated that production would start 'as soon as possible' in 2026 at its Barcelona plant. The factory will be Chery's first in Europe and follows earlier postponements, including a shift from late 2025 due to commercial factors such as European Union tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
Chery had initially planned to launch production in 2024. Chinese carmakers have, meanwhile, expanded their market share in Spain, aided by a global price war among electric vehicle manufacturers.
