PHILIPPINE airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) has received a converted ATR 72 freighter?the first of two passenger aircraft that the carrier is converting for full cargo use -marking its entry into the air freighter sector. The freighter will be operated by CEB subsidiary Cebgo. Able to carry up to eight tons of cargo, the second ATR 72-500 freighter is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter.

As the first of its kind in the Philippines, the freighter gives CEB the ability to bring cargo into and out of destinations served by airports with short runways where only turboprops can take off and land, reported London's Air Cargo News.

Performed at the Sabena Technics DNR facility in Dinard, France, the conversion has equipped the ATR aircraft with a large cargo door (LCD), allowing a load of up to seven LD-3 air cargo containers, or five PBJ pallets.
