SOON after being awarded a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) licence, CargoLogicAir (CLA) has transported 82 race horses for two different customers on separate Boeing 747 freighter flights from the US to Europe. 'Gaining our USDA licence reflects the quality of service we provide and represents another important milestone for us because it enables CargoLogicAir to connect the biggest horse markets in the world between the UK, Europe and the US,' said chief executive David Kerr.
'This increases our ability to meet the needs of our cargo customers in this market segment and will open up new business opportunities for us.'
Onboard the first flight from Atlanta to London Stansted, the airline transported two high-value mares on behalf of Horse America. The horses will participate in the UK's Tattersalls' Newmarket Sales of thoroughbred bloodstock in December, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Six days later the carrier flew from Chicago to Shannon in Ireland 80 flat and hurdles racehorses, each weighing on average 500 kilogrammes on behalf of livestock charter specialist Intradco Global. The horses had been acquired in the annual Keeneland sales in Kentucky, which attracts hundreds of international bloodstock experts.
Before each departure the horses were issued with a signed health certificate by the US Department of Agriculture. Throughout the flights they were monitored by experienced grooms, employed by CLA's customers to accompany the racehorses during their entire journey by air and road.
