A tour boat captain is in court after a collision under Atatürk Bridge led to the death of crew member Yasin Konya in Istanbul's Golden Horn.
In the incident regarding the death of a crew member who fell from a tour boat that struck a bridge pillar while passing under the Atatürk Bridge in Istanbul's Golden Horn, the boat captain has been referred to the courthouse.
A tour boat heading towards Eminönü from the Golden Horn collided with a bridge pillar after being unable to maneuver. As a result of the impact, 32-year-old crew member Yasin Konya fell into the sea, and his lifeless body was found as a result of the search efforts initiated by the teams.
The incident occurred around 10:30 AM yesterday in the Fatih area of the Golden Horn. According to the information obtained, the tour boat named 'Hero,' operated by Mehmet P., had begun to proceed towards Eminönü from the Golden Horn. While passing under the Atatürk Bridge, the boat struck a bridge pillar, causing crew member Yasin Konya, who was at the front of the boat, to lose his balance and fall into the water. After an 8-hour search, Konya's body was recovered.
Meanwhile, following the incident, boat captain Mehmet P. was taken into custody by the Coast Guard teams. The suspect was referred to the courthouse to give a statement after completing the interrogation process and undergoing a health check.
