IMAAK Chamber of Shipping Presidential Candidate Şadan Kaptanoğlu published an open letter to the public ahead of the management elections to be held on October 16. In his statement, Kaptanoğlu particularly emphasized the independent will of the Assembly members and shared his management understanding and goals for the new term.
OPEN LETTER TO OUR ASSEMBLY’S WILL AND COMMON FUTURE
Dear Assembly Members, Esteemed Colleagues, Respected Members of the Press,
Following the elections held on October 11, the new Assembly of our Chamber of Shipping has been formed. First and foremost, I sincerely congratulate all my colleagues who have been elected as Assembly members once again, and I wish you success in this important responsibility you have undertaken.
Our members have expressed their preferences. Now, our 120 Assembly members stand on the brink of making an important decision to determine the new management of our Chamber.
The owner of this decision is, without any doubt, our Assembly itself. Respecting the free will, independent evaluations, and conscientious opinions of each Assembly member is an indispensable requirement of our democratic institutional culture.
We are a well-established community that knows each other closely, sharing a common history, professional values, and responsibilities. We may have different opinions, preferences, and management approaches. However, we have a much stronger common ground that unites us all: the future of Turkish shipping.
Since the day we embarked on the New Route at Sea movement, we have listened to the problems of our sector, developed our solutions, and presented a concrete program for the future. At the core of this program is an understanding of the Chamber of Shipping where our professional committees and branches have a stronger voice in decision-making processes, the problems of our members are followed up until a resolution is achieved, resources are managed transparently and accountably, and strong collaborations with public institutions and civil society organizations are established.
The real strength of our Assembly is determined by how much the opinions of its members are reflected in the decisions and activities of our Chamber. We want to establish a working culture where our Assembly members can freely express their thoughts, voice their different opinions and criticisms without hesitation, and genuinely participate in decision-making processes. An Assembly where every member feels like a strong and effective representative will be our Chamber's greatest assurance.
The next four years will be a period in which significant decisions will be made for Turkish shipping. We will need collective wisdom more than ever on many issues, from global competition to financing, from new regulations to technological transformation. We want to transform the experience and accumulation of our Assembly into timely decisions and strong steps that shape the future of our sector. Together, we possess the knowledge, experience, and will to carry this shared responsibility.
The election on October 16 will also shape the way our Chamber operates and its management culture for the next four years. I believe that an understanding that will transform the accumulation, independent will, and representation power of our Assembly into our Chamber's decision-making capacity is of great importance for the future of Turkish shipping.
My clearest commitment to you is this: In our Chamber, the words of every member will be listened to with the same attention, opinions will be met with the same respect, and problems will be followed with the same determination. Merit, consultation, transparency, and management of common interests will form the basis of our understanding. No difference or disagreement will pose an obstacle to our collaboration.
A management will be elected on October 16, but starting from October 17, we will all continue to work for the future of Turkish shipping as members of the same community.
