The 'Sam Lion', having sailed from Nemrut Bay on June 27, 2018, ran aground in the waters of Santa Catalina island area and has suffered several leaks in the morning of July 3. It was since towed to port by Salvamento Marítimo and berthed at the Poniente dock in Ceutaat 3.35 a.m. and was inspected by the Maritime Captaincy to verify the damages. Ballast tanks were breached and the double hull penetrated. Divers were sent down to check the cracks and evaluate the necessary repairs. In Ceuta only temporary repairs can be undertaken to enable the ship to sail to a shipyard in Gibraltar or Algeciras.
