    PORT of Beirut's container volume increased of 15.1 per cent 173,288 TEU led by transhipment at 7.5 per cent increase to 65,603 TEU from 61,041 TEU in the period up to February 2012.

    Without transshipments, container movement was at a healthy increase of 20.3 per cent annually to 107,685 TEU due to a boost in local consumption, 20.3 per cent annually to 107,685 TEU, according to a report from Beirut's Daily Star. 

    Lebanon's main port increased January revenue to US$16.7 million an increase of 21.3 per cent compared to year previous when it suffered declines due to Middle East unrest lowering consumer confidence. 

    This was supported by car imports, up 8.1 per cent to 14,126 vehicles as the volume of merchandise increased 13.7 per cent year on year to 1,206 tons.
