In 2025, the Port of Baltimore handled over 1.1 million TEU, breaking its record despite significant challenges, including a major channel closure.
The Port of Baltimore handled more than 1.1 million TEU in 2025, breaking its annual container record, reported London's Lloyd's List. The Seagirt Marine Terminal moved 1,113,309 TEU, surpassing the 2023 record by 5,000 units.
The increase of more than 300,000 TEU from 2024 came despite the closure of the main shipping channel for nearly three months. The shutdown followed the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after it was struck by the Singapore-flagged containership Dali (IMO: 9697428).
The port also set a record for vessel handling, berthing 2,223 ships in 2025, up from the previous high of 2,137 in 2023. Officials said container business is expected to continue growing.
Weekly container services rose from 12 in 2024 to 15 in 2025. A US$518 million project to modernize a 130-year-old tunnel will allow double-stacked container trains to operate, boosting throughput by an estimated 160,000 containers annually.
