Aygaz enhances its LPG transport capabilities by ordering two new VLGCs from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, increasing its fleet to three vessels.
Aygaz, one of Turkey's leading LPG companies, has accelerated its investments in offshore LPG transportation by placing an order for two new Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) in South Korea.
The Istanbul-based company signed a contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of two dual-fuel LPG vessels, each with a capacity of approximately 90,000 cubic meters. With these latest orders, Aygaz's total number of new-build VLGCs has risen to three.
The first order was placed in January.
Aygaz entered the maritime transportation segment this year, placing its first VLGC order with HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in January. The delivery of the vessel is planned for the second quarter of 2028, with the vessel's cost reported to be around 119 million dollars.
Supply security and efficiency goals.
In a statement from the company, it was expressed that the new vessels will strengthen supply security, enhance operational efficiency, and contribute to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation structure thanks to dual-fuel technology.
A new era in strategy.
This investment marks a new era in Aygaz's maritime strategy under Koç Holding. The group has been conducting its maritime activities through Anadoluhisarı Tankercilik, focusing on smaller LPG tankers with capacities ranging from 7,000 to 11,000 cubic meters. With the new VLGC investments, the company aims to become a stronger player in global LPG transportation.
