The oil tanker 'Al Salmi' was attacked off Dubai, causing fire and hull damage. All crew members are safe, but oil leakage risks remain.
According to a statement from Veyt Petroleum Company, the tanker named 'Al Salmi,' with a deadweight tonnage of 320,000 DWT, was struck around 00:10 on Tuesday. It was reported that a fire broke out on the vessel as a result of the attack and that there was damage to the hull.
In a statement made by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), it was noted that an object hit the tanker from the port side.
The crew is safe.
The Dubai Media Office announced that there were no injuries in the incident and that all 24 crew members on board were safe.
Kuwait Petroleum Company (KPC) stated that there is a potential risk of oil leakage in the surrounding waters. It was reported that the tanker was fully loaded at the time of the attack.
Fire brought under control.
It was noted that emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the area, and efforts were underway to extinguish the fire and prevent possible environmental pollution.
Dubai officials announced that the fire was brought under control late in the afternoon of the same day. While technical inspections of the damage on the tanker are ongoing, the shipowner is taking measures to minimize environmental impacts.
Attacks are increasing in the region.
The incident is considered to be the latest link in a series of increasing attacks on commercial vessels in the vast geography extending from Iraq to Oman.
While global attention is focused on security risks in the Strait of Hormuz, it is stated that a significant portion of the attacks has occurred at various points along the approximately 1,000 nautical mile navigation corridor stretching throughout the Arabian Gulf.
