A tragic attack on the Tanzanian cargo ship MARIAM M in the Black Sea has left the captain dead and several crew members injured.

Alarm for a commercial vessel in the Black Sea: MARIAM M hit, captain lost his life.

It has been reported that the Tanzanian-flagged general cargo ship MARIAM M (IMO 9167667) was attacked in the Black Sea. The captain of the ship lost his life in the attack, and some crew members were reported to be injured. It is believed that the ship may have been targeted near the Bystroe Channel.

As the Russia-Ukraine war continues to threaten maritime trade, another commercial vessel has reportedly been attacked in the Black Sea.

The Tanzanian-flagged general cargo ship MARIAM M (IMO 9167667) is alleged to have been attacked while sailing towards Ukraine. Images shared on social media show severe burns and explosion marks on the ship's superstructure, and it has been reported that there were casualties following the incident.

According to initial information, the captain of the ship lost his life in the attack, while some sailors from the crew were injured. In the first statements regarding the nature of the attack, the expression 'drone attack' has come to the forefront, while some posts on social media also included claims of missile strikes. However, definitive technical examination results regarding the type of attack have not yet been disclosed.

Was it hit near the Bystroe Channel?

Maritime sources and social media posts suggest that the incident may have occurred near the Bystroe Channel, located in Ukraine's Danube Delta.

The Bystroe Channel is one of the important maritime connections from Ukraine's Danube River to the Black Sea. During the war, this area has become a critical route for commercial vessels heading to Ukrainian ports, and maritime security issues have previously been experienced in the region.

However, it has not yet been independently confirmed by sources whether the MARIAM M was attacked inside the Bystroe Channel, at the entrance of the channel, or in the northwestern part of the Black Sea.
