Atatürk Pier in Ordu is being modernized to accommodate cruise ships, with 39 of 72 steel piles installed, enhancing tourism and the local economy.

In Ordu's Altınordu district, one of the most critical stages of the Atatürk Pier Modernization Project, which is being carried out, is nearing completion with the piling works. The historic pier, which has served the city since the 1960s, is being transformed into a modern cruise port with the ongoing investment.

Within the scope of the project, which is conducted in collaboration with the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, an additional 140 meters will be added to the existing 270-meter-long pier. Upon completion of the works, the total length of the pier will reach 410 meters.

To strengthen the marine structure, steel piles are being installed approximately 40 meters deep into the seabed. As of February 18, 39 of the 72 planned piles have been completed.

Contribution to Tourism and Economy Expected

After modernization, the pier is aimed to serve cruise ships. Authorities state that 1-2 cruise ships could dock weekly, and an average of 10,000 tourists per month is expected to visit the city.

In addition to a new 3,900 square meter pier area, two yacht jetties, a passenger reception center, and a customs building are also being constructed as part of the project.

"Ordu Will Become a True Port City"

Ordu Metropolitan Mayor Hilmi Güler expressed that the works are progressing according to the planned schedule, stating, "We are driving our piles 40 meters deep into the seabed. With this investment, we are bringing an important asset to Ordu. Once the project is completed, Ordu will be one of the key stops for cruise tourism in the Black Sea."

With the completion of the modernization works, it is expected that the Atatürk Pier will play an important role in both tourism and the city’s economy.
