In the early morning of Aug 16, 2018, tuna nets on the aft of the 'Jean Marie Christian IV in Sète were ignited. The purse seiner was moored as usual at the Aspirant-Herber wharf. A vacationer attended the scene closely at the Herber platform. At around 1:45 a.m. a man on a black scooter was approaching very fast with about 70-80 km / h, and at the level of the longliner he threw something. 30 seconds after his departure, there was a small explosion then the fire went off and the flames quickly spread on the net in the back. The Sète firefighters along with forces from Frontignan, Gigean and Balaruc-les-Bains, with about 30 men in total, tackled the fire which spread on the rear deck, especially on the crane and the annexes. They managed to keep the fire from spreading to the bridge and the superstructure. After two hours of fighting, the fire was controlled. As a precaution, a team remained on the spot until the beginning of the morning. The police launched an investigation and started forensic surveys.
