E-RETAILER giant Amazon plans to open a new air gateway at Wilmington air park and use Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport as its air cargo hub. In this regard, Air Transport Services Group in Wilmington has agreed to lease another 10 freight airliners to Amazon for delivery services. According to the terms of the agreement, ATSG will provide Amazon with five more airplanes in 2019 and then the second five planes in 2020 each with 10-year lease agreements.
'We're pleased to expand and extend for several years our support of Amazon's exceptional ability to provide reliable and fast delivery to its customers,' said ATSG president Joe Hete reported Dayton's WHIOTV.
Amazon will be provided incentives to lease up to 17 additional cargo planes from ATSG on top of the 30 the retailer already plans to lease, as part of the deal in which Amazon would also be granted 'warrant rights' in order to expand its equity stake in the airline leaser.
ATSG's latest tie up with Amazon comes as the air services provider announced in December that it would acquire 20 Boeing 767s from Jetran over the coming three years.
'By expanding the Amazon Air network through our partnership with ATSG we're able to ensure we have the capacity to quickly and efficiently deliver packages to customers for years to come,' explained Amazon senior vice president of worldwide operations Dave Clark.
