MOSCOW's AirBridgeCargo (ABC) has applied to the Russian Ministry of Transport to return 14 freighters to foreign lessors, reports London's Air Cargo News

MOSCOW's AirBridgeCargo (ABC) has applied to the Russian Ministry of Transport to return 14 freighters to foreign lessors, reports London's Air Cargo News. One AirBridgeCargo Boeing aircraft has been in Sharjah, UAE since February, and another is at Arizona's Marana Airport near Tucson.

'In May, a Kommersant source spoke about the start of negotiations with the lessor Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (UAE) on the return of aircraft for subsequent transfer to Etihad for financial leasing,' said Russian newspaper Kommersant.

'The Volga-Dnepr Group expected that they would be able to jointly operate these aircraft by re-registering the Russian company to a new legal entity within the joint venture.'

S7 also intends to get rid of two Boeing 737-8 MAX not certified in Russia.

Applications were made to the Ministry in April and May, however, the Ministry hasn't responded.

Under sanctions following the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, aircraft lessors are terminating any lease deals they have with Russian airlines.

In April, the Russian government signed a deal with the Moscow-based Volga-Dnepr Group for the creation of air bridges between Russia and several countries to carry critical goods.
