Air Canada and Airbus are investing C$13.7 million to boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel production in Canada, aiming for a greener aviation future.
Air Canada and Airbus have agreed to jointly fund a Sustainability Co-Investment Platform to support commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production in Canada, reported GlobeNewswire.
The two companies plan to invest approximately C$13.7 million (US$10 million) to accelerate a Canadian SAF project toward a Final Investment Decision. They stated that the initiative could act as a catalyst for a broader SAF ecosystem if supported by favorable public policy.
Air Canada and Airbus will continue collaborating with federal and provincial governments through the Canadian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coalition to establish frameworks that enable large-scale SAF production. The aim is to ensure that renewable fuels are available for the aerospace industry while maintaining affordability in air travel.
Valerie Durand, vice president, expressed that the airline is proud to advance aviation's energy transition. She added that the partnership would assist corporate customers in reducing emissions from business travel and contribute to a lower-carbon path for the industry.
