Geneva-based Advantage Tankers continues to expand its fleet with new tanker orders in China and South Korea, totaling 22 new builds aimed for 2030.
Geneva-based Advantage Tankers, one of the Turkish maritime companies operating internationally, continues to expand its fleet with new tanker orders placed at shipyards in China and South Korea. The company has ordered two LR2 type product tankers with a carrying capacity of 114,000 DWT from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) in China, while also expanding its MR2 tanker program at Guangzhou Shipyard International.
According to news from international maritime publications Splash247 and Baird Maritime dated October 5, 2026, Advantage Tankers' newbuilding orders have reached a total of 22 vessels. The company, which currently operates 28 tankers, aims to achieve a fleet of 50 vessels by 2030.
The two new LR2 tankers are set to be delivered in 2029 and 2030.
As confirmed by Advantage Tankers CEO Tuğrul Tokgöz, each of the two LR2 type product tankers to be built at the DSIC shipyard will have a carrying capacity of 114,000 DWT. The first vessel will be named Advantage Lucky, and the second will be named Advantage Loft. Delivery of Advantage Lucky is planned for the fourth quarter of 2029, while Advantage Loft is scheduled for the first quarter of 2030.
A long-term charter agreement has been made with a major oil company, the name of which has not been disclosed, for both tankers. This secures the commercial employment of the vessels prior to their delivery.
MR2 tanker orders have increased to six vessels.
Advantage Tankers is making its second major investment in China at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). The company has added two more vessels to its previously announced order of four MR2 product tankers, each with a capacity of approximately 50,000 DWT. Thus, the number of MR2 tankers to be built at GSI has risen to six.
Each of the vessels will have a capacity of 49,900 DWT, with deliveries scheduled between the second quarter of 2029 and the second quarter of 2030.
According to international newbuilding registration records, four of the six MR2 tankers have long-term charter agreements with a major oil company. While the contract values for the newly added two vessels have not been disclosed, it has been reported that similar tankers with comparable specifications at the same shipyard are priced at around $45 million.
Suezmax tanker investment in South Korea.
Advantage Tankers' recent newbuilding program is not limited to shipyards in China. The company also has two Suezmax tankers with a capacity of 157,000 DWT under construction in South Korea as part of its program linked to Samsung Heavy Industries. These vessels are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2029.
Thus, the company's newbuilding program consists of ten vessels, including two LR2 product tankers, six MR2 product tankers, and two Suezmax tankers.
The new tankers will be ready for LNG dual-fuel systems.
All the tankers in Advantage Tankers' ten-vessel newbuilding program are designed to be compatible with LNG dual-fuel propulsion systems. This feature will allow the vessels to be equipped with propulsion systems that can utilize LNG in the future. Being built ready for LNG dual-fuel use does not necessarily mean that the vessels will operate on LNG at the time of delivery.
The company's investments across different tanker segments encompass the renewal and growth of its fleet, ranging from product transportation to crude oil transportation.
Two giant VLCC tankers are also being built in China.
Among the orders at the DSIC shipyard, Advantage Tankers has also placed orders for two very large crude carriers (VLCC) with a capacity of 307,000 DWT. The VLCC named Advantage Venture is planned to be delivered in the second quarter of 2028, while the vessel named Advantage Voyager is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2029.
The company is also continuing its Suezmax tanker investments at South Korean shipyards. According to previous reports from Splash247, a newbuilding cost of $88.25 million was set for each of the 157,000 DWT Advantage Spirit and Advantage Synergy tankers.
Targeting a fleet of 50 tankers by 2030.
While Advantage Tankers currently has 28 tankers in its fleet, with the addition of 22 vessels planned for construction at various shipyards, the company aims to reach a total fleet size of 50 tankers by 2030. The company's newbuilding program encompasses various types of vessels, from MR2 and LR2 product tankers to large crude oil tankers in the Suezmax and VLCC classes.
If the new vessels are delivered according to the planned schedule, Advantage Tankers will continue its operations in international tanker transportation with a broader fleet.
