Shipyard Famagusta exports a locally-built tugboat to Germany, showcasing TRNC's maritime capabilities.

On December 12, 2025, at 10:14 AM, Shipyard Famagusta in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus held a ceremony to bid farewell to a multipurpose tugboat with a towing capacity of 16 tons, destined for Germany. This marks the second maritime vessel exported by the shipyard to Europe.

The event was attended by notable figures including Gazimağusa Mayor Süleyman Uluçay, Turkey's Gazimağusa Consul General Işıl Gürler, and various representatives from the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and maritime associations.

Gökalp Gündoğdu, General Manager of Shipyard Famagusta Ltd., highlighted in his speech that the tugboat was produced entirely with local labor and without any incentives. He noted that the vessel was designed by a Turkish design firm, inspected by the Italian certification firm RINA, and is internationally registered.

Gündoğdu expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “We take pride in selling to the global market with local engineering and labor. This success is a significant indicator of the production capacity of the TRNC.”
