Two tankers collided in Istanbul due to strong winds; one was rescued while the other remains adrift as rescue operations continue.
In Istanbul, two tankers flagged from Azerbaijan and Turkey collided due to strong southwesterly winds. The incident occurred off the coast of Küçükçekmece.
The 141-meter Azerbaijani tanker, Kalbajar, made contact with the 115-meter Turkish-flagged tanker, Alatepe. Following a distress call, teams from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and AFAD were dispatched to the scene. The strong winds were pushing the tankers toward the shore, prompting responders to relocate them to deeper waters.
After two hours of intensive efforts, the Kalbajar was successfully rescued. However, the rescue operation for the Alatepe is still ongoing. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the incident, and aerial footage captured the ongoing rescue operations.
