THE 9,365-TEU APL Danube ran aground in Suez Canal while south-bound en route from Istanbul to Jeddah at southernmost Great Bitter Lake, reports Kiev's Maritime Bulletin, which specialises in marine casualties, After suspending all canal traffic, the ship was refloated by two tugs and resumed its south-bound voyage under tow by four tugs and was approaching Suez. According to automatic identification system (AIS), canal traffic was still blocked.

Despite its name, the Maltese-flagged vessel does not appear to be owned by APL, the Singapore-based subsidiary of French shipping giant CMA CGM of Marseilles. No owner or shipmanager is listed on Marine Traffic and Vessel Finder websites, the usual sources of such information.
