Spain's Rota Naval Base is evolving into a cyber port, enhancing naval capabilities with advanced technology and new generation frigates.

The Rota Naval Base in southern Spain is entering a profound transformation process. The traditional defense infrastructure that has been stationed at the base for years is giving way to a 'cyber vault' like port equipped with high technology and data center capabilities. As part of the project aimed at enhancing the naval fleet with five new generation frigates, the base is being restructured to process both ships and vast amounts of digital data.

According to the project, five new generation F-110 class frigates are being constructed with an investment of approximately 4.3 billion Euros, focusing on digital capabilities. These ships will go beyond being classic war platforms, equipped with advanced sensors, artificial intelligence-supported systems, and digital twin technology. The base will be transformed into a 'cyber vault' with infrastructure and security systems capable of managing the data traffic of these ships.

The main motivation behind the investment is to support the massive data processing, cybersecurity, and information infrastructure required by modern warships. Since the existing port structure at Rota does not meet these demands, the docks, cabling networks, and monitoring centers are being completely renovated.

Rota is positioned as an important base not only for the Spanish Navy but also for NATO and allied navies. The ongoing restructuring is seen as a critical step in both enhancing military capability and ensuring the protection and processing of military data.

This project, with an investment of approximately 4.3 billion Euros, aims to strengthen naval power not only through physical platforms but also through digital and cyber capabilities.
