Seventeen ships damaged during the Ukraine-Russia war have been brought to the shipyard in Sürmene in the last two months. The repairs of six ships have been completed.

Commercial vessels that were damaged in the Black Sea during the Ukraine-Russia war are being brought to the shipyard in Sürmene, Trabzon for repairs.

It has been reported that a total of 17 ships have docked at the shipyard for maintenance and repairs in the last two months, with the repairs of six ships completed and work ongoing on 11 others.

17 SHIPS HAVE COME TO SURMENE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS

Some commercial vessels that were damaged due to attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles and naval vessels during the war have been directed to Trabzon after the necessary permit processes.

Work has commenced on 17 damaged ships at the shipyard, which is established on an area of 104 acres.

While the maintenance and repair processes of six ships have been completed, the refurbishment of 11 ships is still ongoing. It has been stated that new ships are also expected to arrive at the shipyard in the upcoming period.

    REPAIRS REQUIRE SPECIALIZED EXPERTISE

Ilyas Murtezaoğlu, Deputy General Manager of the Trabzon Shipyard, stated that the repair of ships damaged during the war is different from standard maintenance work.

Murtezaoğlu pointed out that various damages can occur simultaneously in electrical, mechanical, insulation, and electronic systems on the ships.

"The damages are generally in the bridge area, which is the command and chimney section of the ship. Some ships also have damage in the engine room," said Murtezaoğlu, noting that all systems are repaired in a coordinated manner.

CAN SERVICE 10 SHIPS AT THE SAME TIME

It has been expressed that the shipyard has the infrastructure to carry out repairs on 10 ships simultaneously.

In the facility, which employs approximately 400 personnel, it has been noted that the number of workers can be increased according to the workload.

Murtezaoğlu stated that they also benefit from the local workforce, adding that the shipyard contributes to employment in Trabzon.

STATED THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE IN THE EASTERN BLACK SEA

Ilyas Murtezaoğlu expressed that they have gained significant experience in repairing ships damaged due to the war.

He stated that they are the only shipyard in the Eastern Black Sea capable of providing services of this size and technical capacity, and that special teams have been formed for damaged ships.

Murtezaoğlu also expressed their hope for the war to end as soon as possible, stating that other maintenance and repair works at the shipyard continue without interruption.
