The 'Svartloga' suffered water ingress about ten kilometers off the coast of Zandvoort and began to sink in the afternoon of Aug 25, 2018. The crew, eleven Danes, raised alarm and saved themselves into a liferaft. Immediately the Dutch Coast Guard and the KNRM-boats from IJMuiden, Zandvoort and Noordwijk rushed to the scene with ships, lifeboats, a pilot boat and two helicopters. They found the sinking ship and the castaways. A rescue swimmer descended from the helicopter to the raft and assisted the Danes during the transfer to one of the KNRM's lifeboats. Then a doctor was dropped from the helicopter to the KNRM lifeboat to check the rescued sailors who were not injured. Their boat was underway from Den Helder to Zeebrugge. Its crew was taken to IJmuiden. The sailors, aged between 20 and 60 years, could take a shower at the station and were provided with dry clothing and food. Contacts have been made to provide further shelter. The lifeboats of Noordwijk and Zandvoort searched for debris that floated on the surface after the sinking of the historic ship.
