SEASPAN Corporation has taken in charge the 10,010-TEU MOL Belief from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which is bound for long-term charter with MOL and G6 Alliance service on the Asia-Med EUM loop 8.
The 10 ships are owned by Seaspan and Greater China Intermodal Investments (GCI), with each partner taking five units. GCI is a Marshall Islands-based investment vehicle established by Vancouver-based but Hong Kong administered Seaspan together with US-based private equity firms Carlyle Group and the Washington Family.
Together Seaspan and GCI have ordered 25 ships of 10,010 TEU, of which 14 have been delivered.
Apart from the 10 ships chartered by MOL, seven are chartered by Hanjin Shipping and four by Maersk Line. The four remaining units, scheduled for delivery in 2016-17, have no known charterers, reported Alphaliner.
