”Obez olmak, sağlıklı
olmak demek değildir”
“If Being obese means being built
up; diagnosis would be correct; but
being obese, does not mean to be
healthy.”
Capt. Bulent Dandin
Founder and General Manager, Statu
Shipping
SeaNews: After the elections at Turkish
Chamber of Shipping (TCS) enough
time passed for proper assessment. On
our previous issue, Captain Bülent
Dandin’s made interesting comments
in this regard. As a challenger to power
for the first time after many years, and
after the elections which you had very
narrowly missed, how would you assess
the situation?
Salih Zeki Çakır:
Everyone interprets it
accordingly from the place where he/she
looks and naturally comments will be differ-
ent. We need to take all these interpretations
into consideration and try to put forward a
holistic and co-wise approach.
The main standpoints of our opposition were
as such; a sound representation of all mem-
bers at the Chamber; achieving a pluralistic
and participatory Assembly and reflecting
it to Executive; to create an environment in
which the income of Chamber is managed
and utilized accordingly with rationale of it’s
organization and in a way that all members
can benefit, to create an awareness that the
raison d’etre of Chamber is it’s members;
awareness of the executive that there are
more than the board of directors and / or
appointed council members to take into
account and act accordingly; demonstrating
a project and service-oriented approach at
work; providing better coordination with
NGOs in the sector for their overall need to
support the activities of, need to make more
use of expertise and Universities in solving
the problems and with many other projects
we made our standpoints commonly known
in order to get the votes.
The three negative points which we empha-
sized at the beginning of elections campaign,
(the fact that we began the game 3-0 behind)
emerged as a very compelling case during
the elections period and at the day of the
elections.
- The biased corruption in creating of profes-
sional groups,
- Unlimited and unprincipled use of institu-
tional structure, human and financial resourc-
es of Chamber by the current executive
board;
-Holding the elections at the Chamber head-
quarters despite the lack of physical capacity
which was known and assigning a number
of biased Chamber stuff at the ballot boxes
(the lack of security and confidentiality of
the ballot boxes)
And in addition, a number of other factors,
which I would not specify now, were put into
action and expected rate of participation and
the more votes could not be obtained.
The results has emerged to prove the legiti-
“Change
is not
something
to be
afraid of!”
