The 'Asterion', while bound from Patras for Igoumenitsa with 56 crew members and 45 passengers on board, had a starboard main engine cooling system malfunction in Gulf of Patras, in lat 38 14.9N, long 21 28.1E, at 2340, UTC, on Feb 5 2018. The ferry returned to Patras on one engine, where it safely disembarked its passengers and their vehicles. The Patras port authority banned the vessel from sailing until the engine was repaired and a class certificate of seaworthiness was issued. The passengers were forwarded to their destinations on another vessel.
