A sessions court on July 1 remanded the captain and two crew members of the "Amber L" which allegedly hit a fishing boat off Kochi, in judicial custody for 15 days. The trio, identified as Captain Georgiannakis Ioannis, second officer Galanos Athanasios, both Greek nationals, and Zewana, a Myanmar national who was the designated duty able seaman, were arrested by the Coastal police on June 30 and produced in Sessions Court I, Ernakulam, on July 1. The police will soon move an application to get them in custody. They may be taken on board the ship for evidence collection. The "Amber L" has been detained in Kochi since its collision with a fishing vessel about 14.18 nautical miles off Kochi. Two fishermen were killed and one went missing when the merchant vessel allegedly rammed the fishing boat on June 11. The boat owners have now approached the High Court alleging that they suffered a loss of ₹6.08 crore in the accident. The owners of the ship have expressed their willingness to furnish the security amount to facilitate release of the vessel.
