Lithuanian ship repair company Western Shiprepair and the Dutch dredging company Van Oord continue their co-operation in ships´ repair and modernisation.

This week SC Western Shipyard daughter company JSC Western Shiprepair is planning to finish upgrading work of the backhoe dredger Goliath and repair work on the split hopper barge Jan Leeghwater. In total, during the last three months Western Shiprepair has repaired five ships of the Dutch dredging company Van Oord.

The backhoe dredger Goliath for harbour dredging work was delivered to Klaipeda port by the ship of unique design Rolldock sun. SC Western Shiprepair upgraded the backhoe dredger Goliath, which was built in 2008 and was assigned to the category of the world’s largest backhoe dredgers. During this upgrade the hull was widened and prolonged. On 66,85 m length hopper dredger Goliath about 250 tons of the steel structures were installed, the supporting frameworks and their inside hydraulic systems were repaired, the part of the pipeline systems was changed, the excavator was repaired, the painting work is done.

According to the Managing Director of Western Shipyard Arnoldas Šileika all five projects gave a great experience. “Our specialists have proofed once more the skills to work with no parts supply delays and bringing professional solutions in quick way. What is more, the Dutchmen preparation for the repair was perfect,” stressed Arnoldas Šileika.

The representatives of Van Oord are satisfied with the quality of work, adherence to deadlines and expedition of the work performance of Western Shipyard. Particularly high requirements for work safety and industrial culture, complicated engineering technologies and specific equipment, all that could influence the well-ordered implementation of the project. However, working together with the specialists of Van Oord all the specified work were properly organized and performed.

During the repair and upgrade work other companies of Western Shipyard were involved in these processes.

Currently, the standard repair work of Dutch company’s one more split hopper barge Jan Blanken for harbour dredging work is already being finished. It is planned that both barges and upgraded backhoe dredger Goliath will stay in Klaipeda port and perform dredging work here.
