NEARLY 150 participants from 69 companies participated a three-day safety promotion conference hosted by Japan's NYK Line for shipowners and ship-management at its head office in Tokyo and at Imabari City in Ehime prefecture.
The conference is held during July and August every year as part of the Remember Naka-no-Se safety campaign, which draws on the lessons learnt by the Diamond Grace oil spill in July 1997 to encourage all NYK Group employees to bear in mind the importance of safe operations.
At the conference, the participants discussed the slow-steaming of vessels, in addition to international rules such as the ballast water management convention. Accident statistics and cases were also reviewed, and the understanding and cooperation of concerned parties was requested for safety awareness measures and the achievement of safe operations.
The NYK Group said it will continue to have these conferences and seminars in order to ensure the safety of all NYK ships.
